Top 5 speakers who inspired us at Think Conference

PSP – João Moura, Commissioner

The Polícia de Segurança Pública introduced itself as the public/government organisation with the most Facebook followers in Portugal.

Commissioner João Moura, who runs the PSP's Facebook and Instagram pages, told us a little about the impact the online strategy has on “offline” society and how this institutional brand broke the mould by sharing useful content in a creative way.

Is the PSP a brand?

Yes. We can see the Polícia de Segurança Pública as an institutional brand whose purpose is to guarantee public safety.

To get its concerns across, the PSP builds a close relationship on social media by sharing relevant content in a highly creative way, even using posts that could be considered quirky, which put the intended message across very well and go down extremely well with its audience.

This has undoubtedly been a successful strategy. Here are a few examples of posts made by the page:

• Drink-driving

• Precautions to take

• Interventions and operations carried out by the PSP

• Awareness campaigns

SL Benfica – Pedro Arnaut, Head of Social

A fan and Head of Social at SL Benfica, he gave us an insight into how winning a European title or a run of poor results from the football team can make managing the social media pages a headache.

It isn't always easy to manage emotions after a defeat for the club we love, and SL Benfica's marketing team knows that better than anyone. All the

social media communication planning is done not only for the wins, but also with angry fans in mind after a bad result.

The two main communication strategies adopted are sharing humorous content (memes) and, for the tougher moments, pointing back to the club's victories,

“pulling” on the fans' more sentimental side.

Swonkie – Miguel Ribeiro Ferreira, CFO

In a hugely inspiring talk, Miguel Ribeiro Ferreira, investor on SharkTank Portugal and partner at Swonkie, a Portuguese social media management platform, gave us some tips on how to reach our goals and how to make the most of the opportunities that come our way. Here are his 10 commandments for success:

1 Have attitude

2 Be entrepreneurial

3 Learn from your mistakes and never give up

4 Be humble

5 Make changes

6 Meet new people every week!

7 Look at yourself in the mirror

8 Be happy!

9 Have good energy

10 Don't be afraid

L'Oreal Portugal – Mónica Serrano

L'Oreal Portugal's marketing director, Mónica Serrano, brought us the topic of ebeauty under the title “How digital is disrupting the cosmetics industry”.

Mónica Serrano gave us an overview of the impact digital has on this business and the strategies and methods the brand uses to adapt to this world:

The 3 C's of Digital

1. Consumer – The big changes

2. Channel – An E-Commerce reality

3. Competition – The new landscape

Por falar noutra coisa – Guilherme Duarte, author

Guilherme Duarte, author of the blog and page “Por falar noutra coisa”, closed the conference on a very comic note, taking a serious look at the issues around humour on social media.

The author told us a little about his journey creating the blog, the difficulties he ran into along the way sharing humorous content and how he managed to grow within the online community. In that community he came across not only loyal followers but also plenty of

“trolls”.

He shared with us some of the comments he gets from “trolls” on his social media and

showed how to hit back in style through humour.

To finish, Guilherme Duarte addressed the question of the relationship between comedians on social

media and brands.

“An influencer who only talks about whatever is trending isn't an influencer. They're the influenced”

Think Conference proved to be an important hub for sharing knowledge and experiences — not to be missed, whether in entrepreneurship or in a field as competitive as digital marketing.
